Personal Safety on Public Transport
Hillingdon Police have also shared guidance following an increase in reports relating to sexual harassment on public transport. While these incidents remain under investigation, families are encouraged to discuss personal safety with their children, particularly as many students travel independently to school and may spend more time travelling during the summer holidays.
Key Safety Messages for Young People
Encourage your child to:
- Travel with friends or in groups where possible.
- Stay aware of their surroundings and avoid unnecessary distractions.
- Trust their instincts and move away from situations or individuals that make them feel uncomfortable.
- Seek assistance from transport staff, including bus drivers, if they feel unsafe.
- Call 999 in an emergency or if they are in immediate danger.
- Report non-emergency concerns by calling 101 or using online police reporting services.
- Inform a trusted adult if they experience or witness concerning behaviour.
Reporting Concerns
Young people can seek support by:
- Speaking to a parent, carer or trusted adult.
- Informing school staff.
- Contacting the police directly.
- Reporting concerns anonymously through Fearless, part of the Crimestoppers charity, at www.fearless.org.
By working together, we can help ensure that young people remain safe, informed and supported throughout the summer holidays. For further information, please contact the school safeguarding team.
