Children's Mental Health and Wellbeing Week
Across The Rosedale Hewens Academy Trust, we don’t simply take part in Children’s Mental Health Week — we live its principles every day. Wellbeing is woven into our culture, shaping how we teach, support, and care for every child.
We create calm, nurturing environments where pupils feel seen, valued, and emotionally safe. Because when children feel connected and cared for, they are ready to learn, grow, and truly shine.
We work closely with our wonderful colleagues in the Mental Health Support Team, whose expertise and compassion strengthen our holistic approach. Together, we create environments where children feel seen, heard, valued, and emotionally safe — not just this week, but all year round. Because when children feel connected and cared for, they are ready to learn, grow, and truly shine.
CALM CORNERS & SENSORY SPACES
Across all our schools, calm corners and sensory spaces give children a chance to pause. A quiet moment. A breath. A way to recognise and regulate emotions before returning to learning with renewed focus.
These spaces teach children that emotions are not something to fear, hide, or rush through — but something to understand and manage with confidence.
Our MHST partners help us shape these approaches, ensuring every child has the tools they need to feel steady, secure, and ready to learn.
CLASSROOMS, CURRICULUM & ENRICHMENT
Wellbeing is embedded right into the heart of our curriculum.
Through PSHE, life-skills lessons, and open conversations, children learn how to manage challenges, recognise strengths, and build resilience that will support them far beyond their school years.
And when we take learning outside the classroom — through school trips, cultural experiences, and enrichment activities — children discover independence, curiosity, teamwork, and joy.
These moments stay with them…. They help pupils build memories, confidence, and a sense of who they are and who they can become.
PASTORAL CARE & RELATIONSHIPS
Our pastoral staff are the steady anchors of our schools. Reliable, compassionate, and deeply attuned to the needs of our children.
They listen. They guide. They reassure.
They walk alongside our pupils through challenges, transitions, and moments of uncertainty.
Their message to every child — spoken through actions as much as words — is simple and powerful: “You matter. You are not alone. We are here for you.”
And with the support of our MHST colleagues, we’re able to give early help, specialist guidance, and targeted emotional support at the moments it is needed most.
Together, we create a safety net woven with care, consistency, and compassion.
LUNCHTIMES, PLAY & EVERYDAY MOMENTS
Wellbeing doesn’t only happen in structured sessions — it happens in the everyday moments too.
A lunchtime conversation with friends. A game in the playground. A shared laugh. A teacher noticing a child who looks unsure and offering a kind word.
Our healthy lunches nourish children’s bodies; our safe play spaces nurture their friendships, communication skills, and emotional regulation.
These moments help children feel included, connected, and confident — something that carries with them for the rest of their day.
WELLBEING WORKSHOPS & CLUBS
Across our trust, wellbeing workshops and clubs give pupils opportunities to explore their feelings, build coping strategies, and strengthen their sense of self.
From mindfulness activities… to resilience sessions… to groups where children learn how to express themselves creatively…
— these experiences help pupils recognise their strengths, celebrate who they are, and find confidence in their voice.
Our MHST partners play an invaluable role in this work, helping us deliver early intervention and mental health education with compassion and expertise.
BREAKFAST & WRAPAROUND CLUBS
From the moment a child walks through our doors in the morning, wellbeing is already at work.
Our breakfast clubs give pupils more than a healthy meal — they offer warmth, routine, and a gentle, calming start to the day. A place where children can settle, breathe, chat, and feel grounded before learning begins.
Our wraparound clubs extend this care into the afternoon. Through sports that uplift, creative activities that inspire, reading that soothes, homework support that reduces stress, and nutritious snacks to refuel — we nurture the whole child.
These small, consistent touchpoints build comfort, confidence, and belonging. They send the message: “You are welcome here. You are supported here. You matter here.”
