Free BrightPath Support Available for Children and Families

We are pleased to share information about BrightPath, a free programme from the Blue Magpie Foundation offering additional educational, mentoring and wellbeing support to children and young people.

The Blue Magpie Foundation is an organisation focused on using education, mentoring and opportunities to help young people overcome barriers and build their confidence and skills. Its work in the UK includes educational support, mentoring, wellbeing activities, technology programmes and support for families.

What is BrightPath?

BrightPath offers remote support to children and young people, helping learners who may benefit from some additional encouragement with their education, confidence or wellbeing.

Information published by the Young Harrow Foundation describes BrightPath as the Blue Magpie's flagship remote learning and mentoring programme. It is volunteer-led and brings together educators, mentors, professionals and other volunteers to support young people.

BrightPath can provide free online one-to-one support for children aged five and over across the UK.

How can the programme help?

Families may be able to access support in several areas:

  1. Mental health and wellbeing: Children can have an impartial and supportive person to talk to, with the aim of helping them express their feelings, develop confidence and build positive coping strategies. BrightPath's wider programme information also says that sessions incorporate a wellbeing check-in to create a supportive and reflective environment for learners.
  2. Maths, English and Science: Children who are struggling with their learning, have fallen behind, face language barriers or would simply benefit from some extra encouragement may be able to receive additional academic support. Published information about BrightPath specifically highlights support with literacy and numeracy for primary-aged pupils, alongside broader academic support for older learners.
  3. Additional needs and SEND: The programme also aims to support children with additional needs, working at a pace appropriate to the individual and helping them develop their confidence. The programme listing from the Young Harrow Foundation identifies BrightPath as SEND-friendly and says it has experience accommodating children with low-level additional needs. Parents, guardians and carers should discuss their child's individual requirements with the programme to establish whether it is suitable for them.
How does BrightPath work?

Support is delivered remotely, making it accessible from home. Published programme information says sessions are designed around the learner and describes BrightPath's approach as combining academic development with mentoring and personal support.

The Blue Magpie Foundation also provides one-to-one and small-group coaching as part of its wider UK work, including support with goal-setting, communication and personal development.
