Another Year, Another Alliance Challenge
As Britain and many other corners of the globe swelter in extraordinary heat, even the climate change deniers must be beginning to question whether, if possible, we should all be doing more to protect our planet. With this in mind, the theme for the 2019 Alliance Challenge was ‘Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’. Students worked together in their alliances on a diverse range of tasks, which included creating a recycling board game, a welcome flag, a recycling box, an interactive recycling children’s book, a mascot, a recycling fashion show and so much more. Our artistically creative students set about creating a multi-lingual ‘welcome flag’, which was inclusive of the entire College community, whilst others contributed to making a mascot, using recycled material to represent their alliance. Capturing imaginations and using only recycled material, students created a recycle bin to encourage recycling within the College grounds, whilst other students preferred to compose a board game for a maximum of 4 children aged 8 to 12, to encourage recycling and promote numeracy. Students worked enthusiastically on this year’s challenge, and whilst alliances triumphed individually on certain tasks, it was the ‘T’ Alliance that received the overall winner’s trophy for this year’s challenge. Congratulations to all for their contribution!
